In 1996, Founded Westwood Energy Group, Inc., to assist national corporations with the selection of energy service providers, as well as, assist with their contract negotiations of natural gas and electric purchasing agreements. The company became one of the most sought after consultant firms across the country and was retained for energy procurement services by over 100 industry leaders such as Cisco Systems, GTE, US Postal Service, FAA, Gillette, World Color, Doubletree Hotels, Raytheon, and Unilever.
Personally consulted in over 5 billion dollars worth of electric and natural gas contracts across 45 states.
Created an international credited certification program for the development of energy procurement professionals. Created program and presentation, wrote course workbook and certification exam. Have taught over 1,800 professionals from all over the world since the program’s conception in 1997.
As Power Supply Engineer at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, negotiated one of the first retail level electric procurement contracts in the US. This electric procurement contract saved the MBTA 80 million dollars over the life of the ten year agreement, and was also used by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in their development of Electric Deregulation Directives.
Created an energy consulting division uniquely serving the Supermarket Industry. Became a often sought after speaker in the industry with regards to saving energy and energy procurement within supermarkets. After being asked to participate in four Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Energy Conferences, was asked to be the conference’s Host in 2002. Personally provided energy consulting and energy procurement for industry giants such as Supervalu, Fleming, Shaw’s, Stop & Shop, and Giant Foods. Have had articles published in many supermarket industry periodicals.
Was responsible for operating the Boston Edison Energy Cooperative (BEEC). Maintained and operated program’s computer system required to monitor Customer’s meters and communicate information throughout the year as well as during curtailment periods. Performed walk throughs of member’s facilities and conducted detailed load management audits. In response to a system load reduction, analyzed metering information, created reports, prepared financial statements, and issued incentive checks to Cooperative members.
Obtained exclusive distribution rights to sell the United Technologies ONSI fuel cells in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Created a division to market, finance, and sell on-site generation using micro turbines and fuel cells.
Developed a business plan that led to a leverage buyout of Westwood Energy Group, and in turn, to an acquisition of the company by Siemens Building Technologies. Intimately involved in all phases of the acquisition process.
Choose The Association of Energy Engineers AEE as the primary professional organization to participate in. After being a member of the local Boston Chapter of AEE for several years, was elected to the positions of Secretary, News Letter Editor, Vice President, and finally President in 1994. Via a national election, was nominated to the position of National Vice President in 1999, and President of the entire Association in the year 2000. Currently serving as the Chairman of the National Energy Policy Council. Named Energy Professional of the Year 2003 by AEE. In September of 2006, was inducted in to the Energy Managers Hall of Fame.
Completed over 400 energy efficiency audits throughout North America and Europe.
Provided over 250 speaking engagements to professional organization, businesses, and civic groups.
